This ridged Natsume (Tea Jar) with Shino glaze has been made by hand in Troy Town pottery based in Hackney, London, a workshop of Anglo-Japanese pottery using traditional Japanese techniques and glazes. Natsume or tea jar is a specific type of Japanese tea jar used to store and preserve tea.

Shino glaze is a generic term for a family of pottery glazes. They tend to range in colour from milky white to orange, sometimes with charcoal grey spotting, known as "carbon trap" which is the trapping of carbon in the glaze during the firing process. Shino glaze is the first white glaze used in Japanese ceramics.
