The world famous Chřibská glassworks was founded in 1414 by the German-Bohemian glass-maker, Friedrich family, in the town of Chřibská, which was originally part of Bohemia, and became part of (Northern) Czechoslovakia in 1919. The factory was known as the oldest glassworks in Europe. 

When Communism arrived after the Second World War numerous factories were nationalised and Chřibská became part of the Borske Sklo National Corporation. At this time the skilled glass designer, Josef Michal Hospodka joined the factory, at first running the glassmaking school at Chřibská, and then becoming head designer aged 35 from 1958 to 1970 after the installation of a new four-pan furnace. He returned in 1985, until his death aged 66 in 1989.

During this period, Josef produced his world-famous organic, sculptural designs known as 'metallurgical glass' that epitomised the mid-century modern era of Bohemian glassmaking, and proved very popular. Many of his designs remained in production until the factory closed in 2007. The exquisite glass made during this period is now highly collectable internationally.

All our Bohemia Glass is vintage from the mid 1950s onwards. Therefore, they may have some imperfections that are consistent with use and age, making them utterly unique and special.
