Medium Lava Pot with Domino relief, produced by Dümler & Breiden Keramik and dating circa 1960's / 1970’s. Dümler & Breiden was founded in 1883 by Peter Dümler and his brother-in-law Albert Breiden. The factory was located in the Höhr-Grenzhausen region, not far from Koblenz in western Germany. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, the company produced beer steins and punch bowls. In the early years, Dumler & Breiden produced mainly household items, but in the early 20th century, it turned to the production of more artistic ceramics, including decorative vases, pots and bowls. These products were often adorned with floral, geometric or abstract motifs, and characterised by bright, bold colours. In the 1920's and 1930's, the company enjoyed great success and won numerous awards for its products which were exported all over the world. During the Second World War, production was interrupted and the company was severely damaged by Allied bombing. After the war, Dumler & Breiden was rebuilt and resumed ceramic production, but struggled to regain its pre-war success. The company finally closed its doors in 1992. The main designers were Ernst Dumler, Paul Zimmerling and Rudolf Christmann. Today, Dumler & Breiden products are sought after by collectors for their artistic quality and historical value.
